SANTA CLARA, Calif. - NaVorro Bowman realizes that just by strapping on a helmet again and stepping onto the practice field he could provide the San Francisco 49ers and their defence a serious emotional lift when they desperately need one.Even if his surgically repaired left knee isnt quite ready for game day, and might not be before seasons end. Almost certainly not in time for Sundays return to Seattle, where he injured the knee in an NFC championship game loss last January.Im going to get out there when I feel 100 per cent, lets be clear on that, Bowman said Tuesday. Throughout this rehab process, Ive been doing everything to get me this far. Now its time for some football activity, some quick-reaction, things like that. Of course I want to be there, if Im ready to go. It just comes to if Im ready. Im listening to the doctors. Theyre being great, cautious about what I do. As far as me, once Im out there, I dont know how to go slow. I just know one speed.San Francisco activated the star linebacker Tuesday to the 53-man roster at the conclusion of its 21-day window to do so before it would have had to decide to rule out any chance of a return and end his season. The 49ers (7-6) are in a must-win mode the rest of the way to have even a slim chance of making the playoffs for the fourth straight year under coach Jim Harbaugh. After back-to-back embarrassing losses to Seattle and Oakland, Harbaughs future is in question.Weve been on an up-and-down slope this year, but Ive been behind these guys since Day 1, Bowman said. Its hard to go out there and play teams like Seattle where youve got young guys that havent been in those type of games yet. Just me putting on a helmet again, guys seeing me put the work in, just showing them that I really do love this game, hopefully it will raise the morale of the team.Bowman, for his part, never considered not trying to play in 2014.While defensive co-ordinator Vic Fangio said Bowman would likely need a couple of weeks of practice before playing, it might depend on the teams chances whether he does get in a game at all. The 49ers havent said whether Bowman will practice this week. Its obviously big. Hes not just a defensive leader for our team but last year I think he was the best defensive player in the NFL, linebacker Dan Skuta said. Im happy for him, just to have another great player out on the field.Being without Bowman was a huge blow to a defence that missed pass-rushing specialist Aldon Smith for the first nine games because of a suspension and lost Patrick Willis for the year a month ago because of a strained muscle in his left big toe that required surgery. He was hurt in the third quarter at St. Louis on Oct. 13.Regardless of Bowmans game-day status, having him as a potential option means so much.Thats awesome. I know they might want to ease him into this, given its been awhile and hes fresh off his injury, second-year safety Eric Reid said. Its been different for me a lot, being that last year being my rookie year, all I knew was Patrick Willis and NaVorro Bowman sitting there in front of me making plays, Reid said. This year, theres some new faces, but theyve been playing great. I dont think we can ask them to play any better. Its been different but it will be awesome to have him back.Bowman tore the anterior cruciate and medial collateral ligaments in his knee then had surgery to repair the ACL. In recent weeks he has begun to cut again and simulate football movements. He was an All-Pro in 2011, 12 and last year, and earned Pro Bowl selections in 12 and 13.Any time a player of his calibre becomes available its always a positive thing, punter Andy Lee said. Hes been working really hard to try to get back on the field. Hes definitely somebody that if he can get back out there, why wouldnt it help us?The 49ers cleared roster room by placing second-year tight end Vance McDonald on injured reserve with a back injury. McDonald has appeared in 23 games and has 10 receptions for 149 yards for his career.___AP NFL websites: www.pro32.ap.org and www.twitter.com/AP_NFLAir Max Scontate Outlet . -- Terrelle Pryor took the opening snap of the game, put the ball in Darren McFaddens belly and saw LaMarr Woodley crash down. FIFA said it spent nearly two years analyzing starting times for the tournament in Brazil and always took into consideration the players health. The players federation filed a lawsuit this week to change kickoff times of the 24 matches scheduled to start at 1 p.m. local time (1600 GMT), saying players would be at risk because of intense heat and humidity in some venues. It said FIFA, at least, must introduce two-minute water breaks in each half during those matches. The players federation is asking for a temporary injunction against FIFA but theres no timetable on a ruling. "FIFAs medical team is always monitoring carefully all venues during any FIFA competition to protect the players health," footballs governing body said in a statement. "Cooling breaks will be considered on a match-by-match basis for the 64 matches. Official and mandatory cooling breaks will not be pre-established. Rather, climate conditions will be evaluated prior to each match by the FIFA venue medical officer." There were similar health concerns during the 1994 World Cup in the United states, when temperatures reached the mid-30s (Celsius) in some of the games. Extreme heat is also a problem for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, with FIFA considering moving the tournament to winter to avoid the hot weather in the Gulf nation. FIFA said it already made the schedule changes it felt were needed in the Brazilian cities with the highest temperatures. It will be winter in Brazil during the World Cup, but it may be hot and humid in many of the 12 host cities, especially in the northeastern and northern regions. "One coore aspect in defining the kickoff times was the very thorough analysis of the historical climate data in all venues," FIFA said.dddddddddddd "Therefore, the venues with the highest average temperatures such as Manaus, Cuiaba and Fortaleza do not have any matches with 1 p.m. kickoff times during group stage." Seven matches had their kickoff times altered by FIFA last year. The players federation, known as Fenapaf, wants the changes based on local labour regulations and a study conducted by renowned Brazilian sports doctor Turibio Leite. The study was requested by Fenapaf and FIFPro, the international players union. "We have been trying to discuss this with FIFA for nearly two years and they wont even sit down to talk to us," federation president Rinaldo Martorelli told The Associated Press in a phone interview. "The only alternative was to seek legal action. We really hope that they make the changes in kickoff times, but if that doesnt happen, they need to at least make the cooling breaks mandatory." FIFPro did meet with FIFA last year to discuss the issue, although no direct action was taken at the time. FIFA said that defining the World Cup match schedule is a "complex process" that involves "detailed assessments" from experts in several areas, with players health the "highest priority." It said other considerations include travel logistics and the global television market. FIFPro last year accused FIFA of considering "the demands of TV companies of greater importance than the health and safety of the players." FIFA officially approved referees to implement cooling breaks in 2013, though water breaks were made during the final of the 2008 Beijing Olympics, when Argentina beat Nigeria in grueling conditions at the Birds Nest.
