Facing the Vancouver Canucks may not be a boon to the Calgary Flames, who are riding their longest losing streak since setting a team record nearly three decades ago. The Flames will try to snap their seven-game skid by beating the Canucks on the road for the first time in three years Saturday night. The action can be heard live on TSN Radio 1040 Vancouver at 5pm pt/6pm mt. Calgary (17-15-2) has been outscored 23-11 while losing seven in a row in regulation, the teams longest skid since dropping a franchise-record 11 straight from Dec. 14, 1985 to Jan. 7, 1986. The Flames extended the current slide Friday with a 2-1 loss to Dallas. We had such a great start to the year, we dont want to just waste it in just this one stretch here, center Joe Colborne said. We trust our leadership, we trust our systems right now and its just a matter of going out and doing it. Calgary hasnt done much lately against the Canucks (18-11-2), losing eight in a row after falling 4-2 at home in the season opener Oct. 8. The Flames have also dropped seven straight visits to Vancouver. While Calgary is trying to win at Rogers Arena for the first time since Dec. 23, 2011, the Canucks are looking to continue that dominance in an effort to end their own five-game slide - a stetch in which theyve been outscored 19-7. Vancouvers losing streak is its longest since a seven-game skid Jan. 27-Feb. 8. Obviously every game is important, but the way the things have went in the past, we have to make sure were ready to compete, right wing Derek Dorsett said. Obviously, Calgary coming in, were right neck-and-neck with them. Theyre kind of in the similar situation weve been in. Both teams are going to be desperate. Itll be an intense game. Vancouver needs to get its power play going after failing to score on 18 chances in the last six games, including an 0-for-4 effort in Wednesdays 2-0 home loss to the Stars. The top line of center Henrik Sedin, left wing Daniel Sedin and right wing Radim Vrbata has been held without a point for three games while combining for a minus-12. Still, the Sedins are tied with a team-high 26 points, while Vrbata is three back. Other teams really key on that line, coach Willie Desjardins said. We gotta have secondary scoring. Thats what makes us good. If I gotta keep playing that line, they get tired when theyre playing. Now, you gotta have scoring off the other units. Not a single Canucks player has scored more than once in the past five games, though Henrik Sedin has 14 points in the last 10 meetings with the Flames. He set up both goals by Daniel Sedin in a 5-1 home win over Calgary on April 13. Jiri Hudler scored for the Flames in the season opener, and he had a point in four straight games before being held without one against Dallas. The right wings 13 goals lead the team, while his 30 points are second to Mark Giordanos 32. Giordano leads all NHL defensemen in scoring after collecting eight points in 10 games. However, he has just two in his last 10 visits to Vancouver. Cody Bellinger Jersey . According to TSN Hockey Insider Darren Dreger, it doesnt appear the offer was warmly received by the team. Blue Jackets director of hockey operations John Davidson and general manager Jarmo Kekalainen said on Wednesday the team has made offers of $6 million for two years, $32 million for six and $46 million over eight years but each one was refused by the restricted free agent centre and agent Kurt Overhardt. The 25-year-old Varlamov is thriving under first-year coach and Hall of Fame goaltender Patrick Roy, posting a 26-9-5 record with a 2. Maury Wills Jersey . -- Thirty years ago, the Detroit Pistons beat the Denver Nuggets 186-184 in triple overtime, a game that remains the highest scoring in NBA history. Jackie Robinson Jersey . The move is retroactive to Aug. 1. Hosmer was originally hit on the hand in the first inning of a July 20 loss to Boston. He has played most of the time since, but missed a few contests due to the injury, then departed Thursdays win over the Twins and had tests that revealed the fracture. The Calgary Flames find themselves in the midst of a heated Western Conference playoff race coming out of the All-Star break. Bob Hartley is hoping better goaltending can help them end a five-year playoff drought. Theyll look to start the seasons second half in strong fashion Tuesday night when they host the struggling Buffalo Sabres. Calgary (25-19-3), a point ahead of Los Angeles for the Wests second wild-card spot, won the first four on a five-game trip prior to a 6-3 loss in Anaheim on Wednesday. Goaltender Joni Ortio, who had limited opponents to five goals while starting the previous four games after being called up, gave up four goals on 11 shots. Jonas Hiller, who hadnt started since facing 35 shots in a 6-5 loss to Florida on Jan. 9, stopped 14 of 15 shots in relief and will start Tuesday after Ortio was reassigned to Adirondack. Calgarys 2.64 goals-against average ranks third-worst among teams in playoff position, ahead of San Jose (2.67) and the Islanders (2.78). (Ortio) was playing really well and we were winning so no reason to change, Hiller told the teams official website. At the end you want to have success as a team and we had that. Now Ill try to help the team to have more success. Were still in the picture. I think its a great position were in but from here its not going to get easier. All-Stars Johnny Gaudreau and Mark Giordano continued their strong play in Sundays exhibition with Gaudreau recording two assists and Giordano posting one. Gaudreau had four assists in his last five games before the break while Giordano, who leads all defensemen with 40 points, had a goal and three assists in his last four. The Flames appear likely to avoid a season-high fourth straight home loss as they take on the last-place Sabres (14-30-3), who have lost 15 of 16 and a franchise-worst 11 in a row. All 11 losses have come in regulation, the most consecutively since Pittsburgh lost 13 straight from Jan. 13-Feb. 12, 2004. Calgary has no power-play goals in a season-worst five straight games, coming up empty on 14 opportunities. Buffalo has given up 13 powwer-play goals on 36 chances during its losing streak, however, and allows opponents to score on a league-high 26.dddddddddddd2 percent of chances. The Sabres went into the break on a particularly sour note on Jan. 18 at Detroit, squandering a 3-0 first-period lead in a 6-4 loss. That defeat dropped them to 0-10-1 on the road since Dec. 4 We gave our team an extra two days (off). Its been a real tough grind on all of us, trying to find our game and so forth. I think it did us real good, coach Ted Nolan said. The guys were much fresher (Monday) on the ice, their spirits were more lifted. Its one of those things where its good to get away and forget about it and start fresh. Buffalo has been without right wing Brian Gionta (concussion) and defenceman Mike Weber (lower body) for the last 13 and two games, respectively, but both return this evening. Rookie Nikita Zadorov, tied for the team lead among defensemen with eight points, was suspended for failing to report to the team on time following the All-Star break. The Flames lost 4-3 at Buffalo on Dec. 11 despite a 45-19 advantage in shots, their biggest advantage in a loss since outshooting Chicago 47-19 in a 3-2 road shootout defeat on Feb. 2, 2013. Theyve won six of the last seven meetings in Calgary, however.
